Hedon Rangers 2-2 Beverley Town

Town travelled to South Holderness school to face Hedon Rangers in gale force conditions and got off to a dream start. After only 60 seconds Matty Littlefield latched onto a neat through ball and fired into the bottom left-hand corner to make it one nil.

Town, playing with the wind continued to dominate, with Kegan Rose hitting the bar and post with excellent long range strikes, and Matty Littlefield creating another good chance that this time sailed agonisingly wide.

However on 23 minutes along ball from a set piece wasn’t dealt with and the Hedon striker bundled the ball over the line for the equaliser.

Straight from the kick off Town went forward, and fired in an immediate response, with Ben Thompson making it 1-2 on 24 minutes.

Town continued to look for that killer 3rd goal, but Hedon hung on, and we’re happy for the half-time whistle to come.

Hedon had the advantage of the strong wind in the second half and tried to get the ball forward quickly to the front players with a long ball from back to front.  Towns defence coped well with everything that was thrown at them, well marshalled by Ryan Saltmer at the back.  Town was happy to defend and seemed to be managing the game well. Adam Gibson showed great willingness wide left to get the ball down and play, the same with Stuart Oliver on the right, both players putting in a great shift.

On 82 minutes another long ball was sent forward by the Hedon defence, which Town didn’t deal with, and Hedons number 9 brushed past the defender and fired into the bottom corner.  Full Time 2-2

Town boss Rich Jagger reflected on the result at full time “the lads performed well today, and with the late equaliser, it feels like a defeat rather than a draw. In the first half we could have been 4-1 up, and the second half I thought as a team we defended well. Unfortunately, we got caught out by one ball late on,  but there are plenty of positives to take from the performance, and the lads can’t wait for the next game on Tuesday at home to Pocklington Town.”
