PRE-MATCH REPORT: Nostell vs Hall Road Rangers – Saturday 5th November

HALL Road Rangers boss Dave Ricardo is hoping his side’s added quality and experience will be too hot for Nostell to handle on Bonfire night.

Ricardo’s men make the relatively short journey to Wakefield to face a Nostell side, who are currently bottom of the NCEL First Division as Rangers look to fire themselves up for an assault on the top six.

Following last weekend’s draw with Dronfield, Rangers have lost ground on the leading pack but only remain five points off Campion in sixth with a plethora of games in hand. Saturday’s game will be seen as an ideal opportunity to collect maximum points, against the team that are rooted to the foot of the table, following relegation last year.

Ricardo said: “I am confident that our experience and quality will be more than they have, but we do need to start putting our chances away and ensure we keep it tight at the back, as this ultimately is what cost us last weekend.” As eluded to by Ricardo, last time out Rangers created the majority of the chances in last Saturday’s 1-1 stalemate with Dronfield Town, but had to thank Scott Phillips, second half penalty, his 11th goal of the season, for sparing their blushes after falling behind.

“The Nostell game will give a similar opportunity as to our game against Dronfield last week. They will be a fit and willing side who will obviously be fighting for their lives due to their league position.”

Ricardo added Rangers will have to guard against complacency as despite Nostell’s start to the campaign they pushed third placed Hallam all the way last weekend, losing narrowly 4-3.

Hall Road will welcome back Alex Sherwood whilst forward Jamie Reeson will be monitored up until kick off, before a decision is made on his involvement. Rangers skipper Ash Dexter will also be hopeful of earning a recall to the starting eleven following his role as a substitute last weekend following an eye injury. They will be without Brad Ricketts though as the midfield sits out the second game, of his three match suspension.

Kick off will be 3pm at the Welfare Ground.
