SMO had the pleasure of visiting Haworth Park this afternoon to meet with the new Hall Road Rangers manager David Ricardo.
Invited to report as an exclusive, Chairman Darren Sunley was delighted to welcome David and his new assistant manager Billy Gill to what is an increasingly strong and improving football club.
Following Rangers end to the 2015/16 season, club lynchpin Martin Thacker decided to step down from his role as manager, leaving Sunley and the committee with big shoes to fill.
The club received an unprecedented amount of applications for the role, which has led to the decision to appoint ex-Selby Manager and Rangers player David Ricardo. When asked why David was the right man, Sunley added: “David is the absolute right fit for where the club is now, and for our plans for the future”. Sunley and his committee have worked extremely hard to implement spirit, ethics and clear ground rules for the club and this along with the growth of youth and home-grown talent is a clear part of their future. The right team manager to take this forward is key.
A key feature of David’s role will be working with the existing team players and every player will be given the opportunity to feature in the teams opening game for next season in August.
Ricardo was keen to explain to us how impressed he was with the hard work done by departing manager Thacker, who also played an active role in selecting Dave as the manager. When we asked David why Rangers he added; “Joining HRR where it is now is a great opportunity for me personally. I am looking forward to working with a strong and stable team and taking it to the next level”.
This is an ethos Ricardo and Sunley and his committee clearly share, and some challenging targets have been set for David’s first and second seasons with playoffs in his sights. Ricardo clearly feels welcome at Rangers, and will be a great fit for them moving forwards.
SMO wish David and Billy the best of luck and will continue to follow the club as they move to inevitable success.
