Hessle Rangers Aces aced it in the Hessle Rangers Tournament last weekend in a World Cup style win !
The team opened the group stage with some frustrating times, in the first two games they went ahead and then stiff opposition ground out equalisers. The lads came out positively and kept giving on the pitch in lovely but tiring warm conditions: a testament to their fitness. They remained unbeaten and went through to the World Cup knockout stage.
This is where the boys started to really believe in themselves and turned it all up a gear. They grafted continually through the pressure and tackles and started putting fluid moves together. They were solid and reliable at the back and made their opportunities going forward creating chances and capitalising enough to take two narrow wins and propel themselves to the final. This was it. They meant business now. They were fired up and ready especially after a motivational team talk from coach Regan. They were still unbeaten. They had paced themselves and saved their very best until last (Regan and I wished they had perhaps told us their game plan instead of letting us go through heart wrenching tension!)
The final saw them meet North Ferriby Whites again having done battle in the group stage. The football from both sides was passionate and the opposition took the lead. The boys took a moment to be upset, indeed angry but soon turned that into determined response and the equaliser came soon afterwards. This was the final inspirational drive required to bring the very best from these wonderful lads. More creation and pressure paid off with the ultimate prize- a winning goal.
A totally well deserved World Cup trophy win. Tom, James, Jake, Henry, Will, Carl, Max and Matty take a bow. You’re champions!. #COYA!
