Hall Road Rangers undefeated streak can to an end on Saturday when they came up against the might of Hemsworth Miners Welfare going down 3-0. As the coach load of noisy fans arrived and the big money stars strode onto the pitch you could have been forgiven for thinking it was a foregone conclusion. To their credit though Rangers gave it their all and for spells definitely looked like getting something from the game. After the pairs last , encounter where at half time it was 7-0, some would have expected Rangers to be dead a buried.
After the game Assistant Manager Karl Atkin was upbeat about his sides performance “A really good test for us today after our good run of form.”
“I thought we were superb in the first half and matched the league leaders in every department and created the better chances.”
“It was only for a soft decision from the referee that give them the lead. Second half we pushed for a goal and it cost us in the end.”
Rangers went behind in the 17th minute after Chris Garth was adjudged to have fouled in the box. Jason Yates stepped up to put the travellers in front despite Ranger;s keeper Jordan Douglas going the right way and coming close.
Their one nil lead lasted until the 61st minute, and despite Rangers pressing hard, the visitors doubled it through Billy Law with a header.
Rangers never say die attitude was clear to see and with Danny Walker, Callum Harrison and brother Jordan all having chances it was a close run battle. The table toppers rounded off their scoring on 85 minutes with their third through Sam Jones.
“We’ve come a long long way of late” continued Atkin “and we now have a side that can compete against anybody in the league. The lads deserve a big pat on the back for the hard work they have put in of late and we go again Tuesday”
Debutant Dale Hawksworth came on in the second period and looked like he would improve the Rangers side in the middle of the park. With the end of the season fast approaching Rangers will invite 4th placed AFC Emley to Haworth on Tuesday night. Kick off will be 7:45 pm with Kidd Building services being the match ball sponsor.
