Hall Road Rangers secured their place in next round of the Buildbase FA Vase on Saturday as they beat Silsden AFC 4-3 away at the Keighley road stadium. In epic picturesque surroundings Rangers needed extra time to complete the tie with two goals on the day from Chris Spinks and one a piece from Danny Norton and Scott Phillips.
Rangers Manager Dave Ricardo was delighted with the win and the character shown by his side but unhappy with the goals conceded.
“As a management team we’re thrilled to be into the next round of the FA Vase however we cannot keep conceding 2/3 goals a game.”
“On the main as a back we defend really well but switched off as a team at times.”
“We could have scored 4 o 5 more but it wasn’t to be today. The guys have again worked really hard especially the midfield 3/4 and Phillips up top. Spinks showed his composure in front of goal and deserved his two goals from the work rate he’s put in recently. The team is going in the right direction and I hope the supporters come out in force next Saturday to help us go back to the top of the league”
Spinks got Rangers opener on 37 minutes after some fantastic interplay between Scott Phillips and Jamie Forrester set him up for the first of a brace. As Danny Norton’s volley hit the woodwork and Scott Phillips went close it was just the lone Spinks goal that separated the two sides at the half way point in the first 90. Thomas Coulson pulled Silsden level just after the break but Spinks got his second just seconds later to edge in front again.
As Rangers rode the tide of Silsden attacks they eventually succumbed in the 83rd Minute as Chris Wademan pulled them all square again at 2-2. The game went into extra time and on 94 minutes a top class Danny Norton strike again put the visitors in the lead. Determined to gain a replay though Danny Forrest once more levelled things in the 107th minute with a well placed strike past the unfortunate Adam Stevens in goal.
The winner came with just moments of play left when felled in the box Phillips stepped up to dispatch the resulting spot kick with hope class accuracy. With the draw for the next round not yet made Rangers will have to wait to see who they gain. Next up though will be Teversal at Haworth Park on Saturday.
