After an incredible turnaround from the first leg, North Ferriby United made it through to the Vanarama National North Division Playoff final.
Boston United won the first leg 2-0 and the odds were massively stacked against Ferriby. However, a 3-0 win today has taken them through to the biggest game in the club’s history, with the prize being a place in the Vanarama National League.
A capacity crowd went down to Church Road still with hope that Ferriby could pull off a miracle comeback. The final started exactly how Ferriby fans dreamed it would, a few early chances and a penalty in the 11th minute from King made the score 1-0.
The early pressure continued and Ferriby got their reward of an equalising goal from a corner in the 16th minute, the header from Denton making it 2-0 on the day and 2-2 on aggregate. A stunning start which was a sucker punch for the traveling Boston United.
Boston piled on the pressure late in the first half, but could not break through the Ferriby defence who were determined to keep their lead into half time.
In the second half Ferriby started off positive and once again managed to get an early goal, Clarke made it 3-0 after slotting home a 1 on 1 with Boston’s goalkeeper. An unbelievable comeback from the home side!
Despite a valiant effort and late pressure from Boston United, incredibly, North Ferriby United managed to hold on to win the tie 3-2 on aggregate! An brilliant achievement for the club, who will face AFC Fylde in the final next Saturday 14th May.
After winning the FA trophy last year, Ferriby will be hoping to finish this season on another high and gain promotion to the National League for the first time in the club’s 82 year history! Congratulations to everyone at the club and fingers crossed for next Saturday.
