Three Tuns played East Hull RLFC on Saturday afternoon and started the game very nervously, as the lads knew it was their last chance to win some more silverware this season.
But Head Coach Jamie told the team before the game that they should just play rugby with a smile on their faces and the points will come.
The Tuns got off to a slow start, going under the hammer 10-0 within the first 10 minutes, but stepped it up a level and got themselves back into the arm wrestle. And two quick tries from Sam Cowan and James Sizer turned the game into a real nail biter.
There were Tries for both sides before the half time whistle making the score 14-16.
East Hull started off the second half just like they did the first, taking a quick 14-28 lead and making it look like there was no way back for Three Tuns, but the west Hull side had different ideas.
Excellent tries from Tony Eccles, Nath Parkinson and Phil Hargreaves gave them the lead with a few minutes left, the score 30-28 to Three Tuns.
A penalty kick and a drop goal set tensions rising as East Hull took the lead 31-30, before Glen Bilton powered through to score the winning try for Three Tuns making the final score 36-31 after the try was well converted by Carl Pettman.
Coach Jamie thought captain Dale Ellerby was a real class act in leading the lads. However, the man of the match went to Great Britain’s armed forces rugby star Ben rowan, closely followed by the hard working Tony Eccles and Kris Stocks.
Jamie was delighted with the lads and said:
“They give 100 percent every week and are like a family. This year has been great for us. It’s our first season in the top league and we finished 2nd. We won the BOCM cup on Boxing Day and are now in the final of the play offs Bassett cup.”
An excellent game of rugby with another to come in a couple of weeks at the final.
