Westella & Willerby U16s secure place in the National Finals

Written by

Westella & Willerby Under 16 Girls have continued their unbeaten season in style by winning the North East Regional Futsal Championships in Leeds.

The competition was always going to be tough and the opening fixture of the competition saw Westella (2014 National Champions) play Farsley Celtic (2015 National Champions). The game was fast and at times physical but it was Westella who seized the initiative and got their nose in front. With a 2 goal lead Westella thought that had the better of their old friends and rivals but Farsley fought back with two cracking goals of their own.

With a point each, both sides knew that they would probably have to win all of their remaining games if they were to progress. Westella did exactly that, leaving Farsley needing any winning score in their final game to progress on goal difference. Washington pushed Farsley hard and seemed to be on top for long spells of the game. When Washington edged ahead and then converted again to make it 3-1 with only a couple of minutes to go, Westella looked set to take the tournament win. The final whistle brought celebrations for our local girls, securing them a place in the National Finals.

Westella & Willerby are now looking to add more silverware to an already glittering season, having already won the East Riding County Cup, East Riding Girls League Cup, and, the Under 16’s League title with a 100% winning record.
